Fiber optic with symmetric bandwidth rare?

Is symmetrical bandwidth rare in private fiber optic connections? So, 10,000 Mbps up/down. Shouldn't cost more than €50 per month.

Until now, I haven't seen them in private connections, but only in business connections and the cost significantly over 50 per month.

Maybe you will find the provider where there is the additional option for a fee.

Our local LWL provider writes:

Usually users move on the Internet to "surf": They use search engines to find relevant content for themselves and to obtain business information, they order online products and office supplies. Or you can watch the latest videos from a streaming service app.

In all these cases, the data flows are asymmetrical. What does that mean? The actions of the user cause only the slightest traffic to the Internet – also called upload – but, in response, generate the flow of enormous amounts of data to it itself – the download. This, for example, in the form of image-rich websites, in the form of large audio files such as Spotify or even in the form of huge HD video streams. Thus, if the bandwidth of the Internet connection has to be only in one direction, an asymmetric connection is sufficient for this.

The asymmetrical DSL connections customary for most users, such as ADSL ( abbreviation for "Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line"), are completely sufficient for such scenarios. Standard private customer rates therefore offer a download at a speed of up to 50 Mbit/s, but only 10 Mbit/s in the upload.

In companies, the use of the Internet usually looks quite different : The "classical surfing", ie the download, hardly plays a very small role. On the other hand, the flow of data from the company to the internet, the upload, is very extensive – for example, if external service employees or employees in the home office have to access documents in the company network. Such a data flow occurs particularly when a company has several locations or branches that are connected.

If company-important backups are created in an external data center or in the cloud, then a wide range for the upload is elementary. Other industry-specific requirements with a high upload speak for a symmetrical Internet connection: The dispatch of printed documents, tender documents or the provision of high-quality image and video files – all this causes large amounts of data that can be easily transmitted via a symmetrical connection.
