Hard drive only shown in Device Manager? Windows 10?
After several years of connecting an external hard drive to my computer, it was not displayed at first. After changing the USB slot, it is displayed in the device manager but not in Explorer or Disk Management.
That’s it. That’s it. That’s normal. Doesn’t say much – except that drivers are there for the device.
No hard drives are displayed in the Explorer. That’s normal.
If the hard drive is NOT displayed in the disk management, there is indeed a problem: either the device is defective, the cable with which the device is connected, or USB port/chip of the computer.
Either the USB port of the external hard drive is defective (Windows cannot fully communicate with it), or the hard drive is not initialized/partitioned, or the hard drive itself is defective.
See if it appears there and whether it is assigned an active primary partition (if not, repeat) or a drive letter (you can also do it there).
You could also expand the hard drive from the housing and connect directly to your PC. There are usually standard HDD/SSD installed in it with standard SATA ports.
