Pet rat got scared?
I was just cleaning my pet rats' cage by vacuuming the entire floor. I got them used to it beforehand by vacuuming the room, and then slowly started vacuuming the floors and giving them some food. They're definitely used to it and even come to the vacuum. Now all of a sudden, one rat went wild, jumping around as if it had burned itself or hurt itself in some way. I looked straight away but couldn't see what was wrong. I was also one floor up and didn't know what could have hurt it. Anyway, I didn't think much more of it. But then I saw it sitting upright in the corner with its belly against the bars. At first I thought it was dead; it hadn't even blinked. So I gave it a little nudge. It was a bit stiff, or rather, it just didn't move. Then it finally moved, and I could see that it had peed a little underneath itself. Now it's still sitting there, but completely normally, cleaning itself. Could it be that she was just briefly shocked and needs some time for herself? After all, she's grooming herself, which is a good sign, right?
It’s hard to say.
But rats, but their pips usually get off in certain corners where they don’t just sleep – because of the odor nuisance. When they clean and look clear around the eyes, they don’t seem to suffer acutely.
Maybe shortly before, she was harassed by mites or other parasites and/or she thinks it has something to do with the suction noise.
A visit to the veterinarian may not hurt.
So she’s been watching again, it seems everything as usual, I’m definitely going to look more closely for the next few days. If I notice something again, it will definitely go directly to the veterinarian, which is very close and can come by at any time without appointment. I think she just frightened, but I thought of a heart attack right there, I was really scared when I was sitting there. But otherwise it is also always one of the curious ones that comes to the vacuum cleaner pipe and sheds it.
