External hard drive not working on MacBook?

My external hard drive is displayed, and I can click on all the files, but unfortunately, nothing is transferred. It works on Windows (I can move everything around, etc.), but not on my MacBook. Does anyone have a solution for using my hard drive on my MacBook? Is there anything I can change? (I've always used this hard drive on a Windows PC before.)

What file system is the hard drive formatted?

MAC OS has its problems with NTFS. It is better if the disk is formatted with FAT32 or exFAT. That would be file systems that can handle MAC and WiN.

The external hard drive is formatted in NTFS. To use this under Mac OS you need an NTFS driver. He is called Mounty for NTFS and is free. The installation is done via Homebrew:

  • brew install gromgit/fuse/mounty

Then restart.

This works like this: if you insert a disk formatted in NTFS, wait until a notification appears. Then you can fully access the data carrier.
