Experiences with gout?

Hello, my dears,

The day before yesterday evening, while resting, I suddenly felt severe pain in my foot – in the big toe (basal joint) – and I noticed some swelling. This pain was truly unpleasant and lasted for about two hours. I had magnesium oil at home. After applying it, the pain subsided significantly after about 15 minutes. It could, but of course, not necessarily be due to the oil.

The symptoms sound like a gout attack. My brother had problems with it. However, my brother is also overweight and has diabetes. I, on the other hand, am of normal weight, haven't eaten meat for years, and I don't drink alcohol. I'm female, 43 years old. Also, the day before yesterday, I did a lot of squatting in the garden. Since the attack, the area has felt a bit uncomfortable, it still pulls a bit, and I'm resting it a bit, but otherwise, everything's fine. That's why I didn't want to see a doctor right away. But I would still be very grateful for any experience I can share.

Thank you very much

Hello,

In your place, you should simply ask your family doctor to create a large blood count. Then it can be circled more closely whether it can become really slow on the basis of certain markers or whether in your case it was only an activity-related overstimulation of this joint.

Ggf. did not exert optimally matching shoes on this joint during your garden work.

I have a normal weight, have not eaten meat for years, and I do not drink alcohol

Even with vegetarian or vegan diet, there are foods or crops with relatively high purine contents.

A doctor’s visit would make sense. At Gicht the uric acid is increased. Serum uric acid can be controlled by means of a blood test. However, this laboratory parameter is not contained in a large blood pattern. A large blood image comprises the small blood image, with the values haemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, thrombocytes, haematocrit + the differential blood image, where the subtypes of leukocytes are differentiated, lymphocytes etc. An increased uric acid can be lowered with medications such as allopurinol.
