Experiences with career reorientation?
Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the midst of professional self-discovery and trying to structure my thoughts. I find this works best when I interact with people, so my question to you is:
I'm 26 years old, have a master's degree in mechanical engineering, and a year and a half ago I moved into the energy industry (or switched careers) and work there as a management consultant. I graduated with excellent grades and I'm doing a good job. However, I'm not really satisfied with all of this because it feels like I've been living a different life than my own—it just doesn't feel authentic. These thoughts have been popping up again and again for years now, and I feel the need to break out of this hamster wheel. But I'm also plagued by various worries because I've built a wonderful life with my girlfriend, one that also requires a certain amount of financial stability, and I don't want to take that away from her.
Is there anyone among you who has been in a similar situation and can give me some good advice?
Thanks so much!
PS: I realize these are very privileged concerns. Nevertheless, they are real, and I ask you to take them seriously or ignore my question. I'm still open to constructive criticism!
My husband has studied something very similar and found himself also that he felt in the free economy, but only completely, without really being satisfied (even if you don't deserve badly).
He then searched for a job at the city in the field of work and environmental protection and is now responsible, among other things, for control in companies with emissions and their mechanical requirements within the legal framework. He also notes here that sometimes you are not satisfied in the profession, because you lack the feedback or you do not directly "create" something or something, the result of which you can then book as a personal success. But he has less stress, more private time again, free weekends and with the just lower income we still get good
