Ersatz für CANON EOS R?

Hey!

Hello

the EOS RP is still the “winner” small picture DSLM and currently just under 1000€ available. If from March the R8 comes as a presumed “successor”, the RP will probably be a little cheaper. The RP is slightly larger than the x100. In addition, the X100 is a “hate or love” camera or designed/optimized for classic street photography. X100 must be understood or tried before purchase.

The EOS R8 becomes larger (in approximately R7 housing size) but again by 10% lighter than the RP. The RP is too small for “Männerpratzen”. RP is still in large numbers because Canon has its own chip Fabs in Taiwan and has not fully caught the “chip crisis”. Fuji is a small series manufacturer, the X100 is still “manufacturing” and if Fuji is short of market, there is hardly any price drop. Therefore, x100 used prices are quite high even the first X100 with 12MP sensor can hardly be bought under 400€ in well maintained condition. Alternatives to the X100 are the Fuji X70 or XF10 or Ricoh GR III types or Leica X.

Since 2016, Canon has patented some RF pancakes and foldable RF Zooms, it comes with a 24-50 folding zoom (as with Nikon Z) with the Canon EOS R8, but probably around 5cm thick.

Otherwise, the RP with RF 50/1.8 (4cm thick) jacket pocket suit or the RP fits without optics in large working shirts chest pockets, the optics into the other.

From 2024/25 an RF 28mm pancake with about 2cm “thick” over bayonet flange will weigh below 100 grams and the Tessar/Doublegaus Bokeh from the Canon S 28/3.5 Serenar “rebuilt” or there are rumors to an RF Serenar line with “metal mount” (28/2.8 – 35/2.8 – 55/2.8 – 80x.8) as with Pentaw Limited. The RP would be like a Canonet 17.

If you want to continue using the lenses, you should look at the EOS R50. From the sale of the EOS R Bodies, you can easily regain it. It is thicker with lens than the Fujifilm but also very compact and lightweight.

If you want to be even more compact without forgetting the quality of an APS-C sensor, check the Powershot G1X Mark III or the EOS M200.

At least like a compact camera. A system camera is too unwieldy to you.
