Error message cr3 format is no longer supported?
Hi, I was just about to look at my pictures from my last photoshoot with friends and unfortunately discovered that my computer can't open the files. I always get an error message when I try to open them in Windows Photo Viewer. This wasn't a problem with my Canon before. I got the "Raw Image Enhancement" program and was always able to view them, but now I can't see anything at all. Every photo gets an error message. Although everything is fine with the photos. What can I do? I'm pretty confused.
Well, this isn’t like picture files, like JPG…
A RAW file is not a fixed file format but always absolutely camera-specific.
Therefore, it may be that the data from a camera are displayed by another but not.
Therefore, you should always use data for RAW on a suitable software that also supports the corresponding camera.
Look here, for example:
https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002718118-Camera-Models-and-RAW-Files-Supported-by-Capture-One#h_af1e6c60-5aa0-4c94-aba5-07e141364fb3
You can see that different cameras from Canon use the “CR3” format, but you still need different versions for different cameras.
The software version 20 can display CR3 files e.g. the EOS R5, but if you have data from an EOS R7 you need at least version 22 if you try to load the version 20 you get either an error message or the images are not recognized and displayed at all.
The image extension of Windows does not support all CR3 cameras, so if it worked before, then you might have another camera.
These cameras are supported:
LibRaw 0.21 supported cameras
Otherwise, reload the RAW extension, maybe there was an update. This extension is only suitable for preview purposes.
Alternative: The free Adobe Bridge (Installation required by Adobe Creative Cloud). You can definitely stretch all camera files.
Download Adobe Bridge for Free
The RAW files you always visit a suitable program to view them. You need to update Evtl on the PC the appropriate software.
