I mostly recognize the federal state. Within the Styria I can further differentiate dialects, otherwise I recognize Vorarlberg, Tyrolean, Salzburgerisch and Kärtnerisch after a maximum of a few sentences.
OÖ/NÖ and NÖ/Vienna do not always find it so easy to distinguish, as there are some overlaps or overlaps. I know too little. I basically recognize Burgenland from the southern part how the dialect changes to the north (so near Vienna/NÖ) I honestly do not know.
Salzburg, Tirol, Vorarlberg and Carinthia? How is it?

I recognize the alemannic dialects that are spoken in Vorarlberg and Tyrolean faraways. Also in the Walser communities you can see the alemannic sound. In the rest of Austria, South-Bairian dialects are spoken, which have all certain similarities. I easily recognize Carinthian and Steirer as well as Tyrolean, where I can distinguish between the most common dialects in North, South and East Tyrol. At Ober- und Niederösterreich and Salzburg I have problems to determine the exact origin. It’s a bit easier with the Burgenland, but I’m not always sure.
And Vienna?
In Vienna, quite different dialect variants and accents are spoken, which I cannot always keep apart. I had the honour to have a longer conversation with the President of the Federal Republic, and I heard the pleasant accent of the Kaunertal.
It is of course possible to estimate this, but not exactly because the dialectal boundaries do not coincide with the administrative. But it’s like that in every country.
