For recommendation, the term “animal photography” is quite broad. If you want to photograph a sleeping cat or call a running dog, that already puts quite different requirements. In addition, it would be good to know what’s going on as a camera, a thick DSLR or should it be something that can disappear in a small pocket?

I often recommend looking for used cameras. An EOS 70D or 750D can be found for 200-300€. A Sony A6000 can also be found under 300€.

In advance, even if that sounds thrush: there are no entry models, just as little as there are entry-level kitchen knives. Sorry, but this is reality.

To your problem:

Photographing animals is anything but simple, because the range of motifs is extremely high. You get dog in a standstill with your smartphone, small quirliger dog in motion is another construction site and requires an elaborate autofocus with eye recognition.

Should body/objective be small and light? Then a bridge camera or MFT would be interesting, if you want to use different lenses, then DSLR or DSLM. The latter are the cameras of the future, but everything else than “cheap”. Where good used DSLR also performs its services.

There are no recommendations from me, because the body has to be a good one and the operation is intuitive. This is personal taste. What I think is good for you might be horrible.

Finally, the reference to the subject of mastery of the photographic three-step: ISO, aperture and exposure! The theme of image composition and reworking of the RAW data is also included, because then you can get a lot more out of the photos.

Conclusion:

Please describe what’s going on.
