Theoretically, you can enter a passport if it has expired for more than 5 years. The question is, however, whether you get to the border without a valid passport. It is therefore recommended to have a provisional passport issued abroad.

Against German authorities, you must prove yourself to IMMER with a German document and must not conceal your German state authority by showing you with a foreign document.

For entering Germany, you must therefore use your German passport, even if it has already expired.

The entry into Germany can of course not be denied to a German, even if he has no identification documents. Then it’s just a little lain. You can’t reject a German.
