Halogenoalkanes are theoretically also relevant to the production of greenhouses (mainly let visible light through and absorb parts of the IR), even stronger than CO2. Practically, they are irrelevant as they occur in a much lower amount than CO2.
Hazardous are the haloalkanes for the ozone layer – if it is destroyed, this is also unhealthy (more UV comes through, results in more skin cancer). Why they are also largely prohibited and therefore are only released in a small amount.
Yes, haloalkanes can also be greenhouse gases and thus strengthen the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect occurs when the heat radiation emitted by the earth is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and reflected back to the earth. This leads to an increase in temperatures on Earth.
Halogenoalkanes are hydrocarbon compounds which contain halogens (fluoro, chlorine, bromine, iodine). They are present in small quantities in the atmosphere, but their contribution to the greenhouse effect is relatively low compared to other greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide (CO2). However, they can play an important role in the chemical reaction of other greenhouse gases and thus indirectly strengthen the greenhouse effect.
The greenhouse effect is determined mainly by the concentrations of CO2, methane and dinitrogen oxide (N2O) in the atmosphere. These gases are much stronger greenhouse gases than haloalkanes and therefore contribute the largest proportion to the greenhouse effect. Nevertheless, haloalkanes can contribute to warming and should therefore be taken into account in the considerations on greenhouse gas emissions.
Fluorinated hydrocarbons lead to destruction/or To reduce the ozone layer.
