Dwarf rabbits and rams?
Hello,
We got a baby dwarf rabbit and a baby dwarf rabbit 13 weeks ago. Both male. We had them neutered and health checked as soon as they were mature. Our vet confirmed that both are healthy.
(Condition: Balcony sealed against sun, wind and thunderstorms, sufficient run of about 6-7 square meters for both, varied diet, meadow, fresh vegetables, some fruit and now and then as a treat from the hand a ready-made mixture because the two like it so much)
Now it's like this: as soon as the two of them got used to their new accommodation, the dominance fights started (I know that dominance fights are normal). My white dwarf rabbit chases my ram almost every other week. And I know if he were to catch him, it wouldn't end well. My ram is abnormally afraid of the dwarf rabbit. The ram doesn't want to hunt or be hunted. Every time he gets so scared that he pees and poops and stays sitting on it until I pick him up. Last night there was another chase. Now my dwarf rabbit has also caught my ram's ear and injured him. My ram was terrified. After petting them both and showing them affection like I do every morning, I had to separate them so I could go to work.
I know they shouldn't be separated, but my ram is just terrified. He's fine as long as he's not chased. So he lives at the whim of my dwarf rabbit. Isn't that torture? This happens every two weeks.
“You shouldn’t run it”
Even males are often not understood. Separation is the only solution, and it must not be in “individual” either. Aka either you make two areas out and get two more females – or you have to give the animals.
I just see so many red flags here. It can’t go well.
As far as the solutions are concerned, I agree with the others. You can try to bring women together but 1. you don’t have enough space for it, and 2. they are no guarantee that it will work.
Either you socialize your men again neatly – so separate 2-3 weeks without smell and visual contact and then keep on neutral ground for 1 week
or
you have to separate yourself from one of the two.
Hello 🙋🏽
You can’t separate them, it’s just gonna make it worse and you can’t get them together anymore.
I’d advise you to get two females out of the shelter at their age and get them together.
Greetings I hope I could help you
actually you would have to get females, but the place is not enough because it is only minimum dimensions. Don’t separate is an unfavorable constellation. In addition, the dwarf-danger, which belongs to the breeds, can be endangered if his ears carry wounds through the struggles.
