Dull fur after castration (pet rat)?
Hello,
We recently acquired four pet rats. We were supposed to get four females, but one of them turned out to be male shortly after adoption. We didn't want to remove him from the pack, so we had him neutered. The little one took the neutering very well and everything healed without any problems. However, we noticed that he has gained quite a bit of weight and is now much fatter than the other females. Since males normally get bigger and heavier than females, I'm not worried yet, especially since he's still growing. We did, however, notice that his fur is duller than the others and doesn't have any shine. However, he eats normally and seems very lively and healthy.
Does anyone know if this is normal for neutered cats?
The increase in weight of a castrated animal is nothing unusual in itself and occurs, so usually after a castration you feed only 2/3 of the amount that was usual before castration, as it still grows, just have an eye on it.
In addition, it takes some time for the hormone level to come into balance, as the rate can become somewhat strange, even in the case of skin care.
However, if your rat is healthy, let a veterinarian look at it afterwards, it doesn't have to be, but it may have something with the skin or skin. Because only he is affected, I do not believe that, but I am sure.
Thank you.
