Dual study program 2024?

Hello

I'm in 13th grade and will be taking my first Abitur exam in less than two weeks. After that, I definitely want to do a dual study program. However, I'm checking right now, and there are very few dual study places available. I'd like to start my apprenticeship in August or October. Am I too late? Or why are there so few places left? That would be my first question.

Second question: My parents don't want me to study traditionally because it would cost money every month. Is that true? If I study at a regular university, will it cost money every month?

The third question is, what if I can't find a dual study place this year? Do I have to wait until next year?

I’ve also thought of doing a dual study. After a number of cancellations, I decided to study full-time. For me, that was the best decision.

In dual studies you also have the academic requirements like any normal student, only on top of that you have an in-house training. This can be extremely stressful in the testing phase. You have the exams from your studies and then the exams for your training on top. You are usually also contractually bound to participate in lectures and seminars. You often don’t have that for full-time studies.

The costs for studying in Germany are quite low. Easy to handle with a minijob and bafög. I could even move from home. I pay about 300€ per semester for my studies.

I’m not quite sure what the dual course looks like, but you often have the choice between summer and winter semester in a classic course. You mean you can apply again in half a year. However, it varies from university to university. But usually everything is on the websites. I think you have to wait another year for a dual study. This could be a good time for an internship.

1. For a dual study you usually apply about 1 year ago. So quite normal that now most places are occupied.

2.) There are no tuition fees at normal state universities. There it is only necessary to pay once per semester of the semester fee and this money is used for the students, e.g. for the semester ticket in local traffic.
Monthly tuition fees are available only to private units.

3. If you don’t get a dual study site for this year, you can consider studying normally. Or you will apply for a dual study for 2025.

Am I too late?

Don’t think. But you’ll find something. Otherwise, you need to apply initiative/proactive.

because this costs monthly. Is that right? If I’m studying at a normal university, it’ll cost a month?

No. You only have to pay the semester fee (half year) of 60-140€, depending on the university/FH.

In dual studies, however, you get monthly money from the company without having to work there in time. At the “normal study” you have to finance this by a student office, HiWi-Job, Mini-Job.

what if I can’t find a dual study site this year? Do I have to wait until next year?

If you want to study dual, you won’t be left. But if you’re looking a lot now and you’re gonna be okay.

In itself, a normal study does not really differ much from a dual study except that you have to work with the company instead of a semester break. You will also be paid for this under the semester without 20-hour work. Sometimes you are also contractually bound to work there for 1-2 years at the end of your studies.

Found that the dual students have always had a chilled life compared to the students who had to work alongside their studies anyway.
