Does it matter which catalyst?
So, I have a Giannelli exhaust system on my Yamaha YZF-R125. It has a manifold with an inner diameter of 40mm. But I can't find the right catalytic converter anywhere. I've found catalytic converters from other motorcycles online, such as choppers, with a 40mm diameter.
Now my question is whether all catalytic converters are the same. In other words, whether there will be any difference in the sound if I use a catalytic converter from another machine that fits, or one designed for the system (if I ever find one).
And yes I know Euro Norm and so on but I am only referring to the sound or the task of the exhaust
No, it’s not. If the catalyst is too small-volume, or it has insufficient cell density (100, 200 or 400 cells), then its cleaning performance is not sufficient, and you will get problems with the next AU – sometimes aside from the fact that more harmful substances are released, which sometimes have a carcinogenic, respiratory stimulant, ozone-promoting and smoting effect. The required catalyst volume can be estimated on the basis of the added table (applies to 400-cells).
No, it must be the right thing, as checkpointarea said.
