Does Amazon's "free AWS" version cost money if not used after 12 months?!?

Hello,

I tried it out for testing. Then I recently got an email saying I'd already used up 70% of my free data volume and would have to pay soon. I thought, HUH?! Nothing's really happening!

At least nothing is being used by third parties, but the fact that I have something running there seems to me as a layman (I can't code, but wanted to test it out myself) tells me that costs will arise soon.

So, what do these 12-month "free tier" mean? I need someone to explain and confirm to a non-Amazon user how the free tier works, and whether there are any pitfalls if you carelessly let it continue unused (which seems to be the case). Thanks!

Yes, some free offers at AWS only run for 12 months free.

If it’s a personal project, prefer Netcup or Scaleway or Digital Ocean for a VPS, AWS and Co. are expensive than Enterprise Grade.

Yeah, I think so. By the way, Scaleway has regular IPv6 VPS in Amsterdam and Paris with unlimited 100 Mbps connection and 1GB RAM for 43 cents a month. However, are difficult to look more frequently into the instances list from availability. Stardust
