Does alcohol destroy brain cells or does it “merely” disrupt their communication?

Hello dear Gutefrage users.

I occasionally research the effects of alcohol consumption on humans. I always come across answers like, "Approximately 10,000 brain cells are destroyed per binge," and "Alcohol doesn't destroy brain cells, it merely disrupts their communication." To kill brain cells, you'd have to drink so much that you die.

In my eyes, both sound plausible, since alcohol is a cell poison, but if it destroys brain cells, it doesn't automatically destroy tens of thousands of other cells, such as skin cells, because it gets into every part of the body.

I hope you know a little about it and if not, please let me know what effects you think it has on the body.

I'm only 15 and right now, because of this insecurity, I don't drink alcohol.

Thank you for your answers 🙂

Best regards

Hi.

the truth is – both have its accuracy.

During a noise, the communication between the neurons is disturbed; because it – like iqsmall dragon has already said – can put on various receptors and develop its effect.

alcohol is also Neurotoxin – it acts in a cell-destructive manner, and this preferably affects nerve cells. The basic problem is that nerve cells are very sensitive and they cannot or can not occur at least in the central nervous system. only very limited regeneration.

A destroyed neuron is therefore not replaced – once broken here is always broken.

In the past, it was believed that cells do not grow safely the same cell no longer grows, but other cells can grow in brain and take over the work of the cells.

There are people who have been cut off half the brain and they have learned to learn everything again with the verblial planes

Of course, alcohol also destroys other cells in the body. Liver, pancreas and stomach mucosa are most endangered.

Fact is brain atrophie and being change.

I drank alcohol almost every weekend. It didn’t happen to me. I was never addicted

But since I’m 20 I’ve only been drinking 1-3 bottles of beer

The brain cells die not by the alcohol, but for the longer term by toxic metabolic products which arise from changes in the liver. This goes far beyond the noise.

Recommended for the search, including documentation of the long-term consequences of alcohol abuse:

There is such a nice set that is very true:

Empty bottles can be recycled, empty brain cells not

It’s more obvious.

The destruction of brain cells is a theory that is now overhauled.

  1. Alcohol molecules are wrongly held for Nervern transmitter substances. That’s why you’re moving too slowly, but it disappears with time through alcohol reduction.
  2. When it comes to the brain and does not exactly serve as a transmitter blocker, it can also damage and kill the cells themselves. However, brain cells cannot grow up like other cells, which is why this is so bad. So toddlers have the most powerful brain .. he only lacks the input. Then it becomes less and less powerful but more input.

I’m only 15 and now, because of this uncertainty, I don’t drink alcohol.

No bad idea to do without it, even for reasons other than the fear of the brain cells.

However, it is a myth that die brain cells at every noise.

To do this, you should drink so much that the brain cells no longer need to be interested because you would be dead.

But: Frequently drinking in the noise leads to long-term damage, the brain works more slowly (permanently).

Even those who drink moderately should assume that the performance of the brain is affected for several days.

The next day until at noon to have defeated the “Kater” does not mean to have regained the full brain power.

Some studies want to have found evidence for this, moderate alcohol consumption increases our ability to think. If one investigates who was contracting for the study, it is quite fast to question:-(

Clear – every alcohol consumption destroys brain cells and leads mainly to mucosa and liver damage. You can find more exact here.

Hello!

Here you explained it medically. From the book ‘Alcohol Disease and Alcohol Abuse’ by Lothar Schmidt.

I have the 4th edition of 1997. But nothing has changed to the medical facts.

I’m afraid so. The USA is researching a lot and comes to results that do not please everyone as it seems.

Just believe what the grandpa knew!
