Do people still use them frequently or do they store more data in clouds or on hard drives these days?

The companies then buy, for example, 5,000 USB sticks (printed with company logo and web address), where the akteulle catalogue is already recorded as pdf. This is then distributed to trade fairs or to customers > Promotional items!

As long as there are no “important data” and you make backups, this is also O.K.
USB sticks and memory cards are intended for data transport and emergency/installation media. Not as a data archive. That’s too common.
I use both – a cloud and an external SSD.
I use the cloud for photos and other smaller files that I can access from all devices.
The SSD serves primarily as a storage location for larger files, but is also practical if I want to quickly transfer something from one to another. My Internet connection does not allow fast data transfer.

Of course, a USB stick is a disk in pure form: small, enough storage space and always there.
I still use USB sticks regularly. This has several reasons:
1. I used them for school. Having a PowerPoint in the cloud was always a bit risky.
Two. Transfer files between two devices: I can find faster than download high and back
3. Internet: I don’t have the Internet and would like to transfer files between devices.
4. Devices: Some devices (e.g. Hifi systems) can hold only USB sticks and not files from the internet.
These things have different fields of application.
Hard disks are more for large amounts of data you want to have locally.
Cloud is convenient for larger amounts of data and has the advantage that you can access it immediately on different devices as long as you have internet.
USB sticks are practical for smaller amounts of data and fit into the pocket. For example, I have a small USB stick attached to my keychain and if I am on work and someone wants to give me a file or something, or I want to draw data from nem other PC that is a practical and fast way.
Use USB sticks up to 1 TB today. My important data is all based on it. And at home, I got a 6TB Nas on Raid 1 on a USV.
I don’t need a stupid cloud. All important of me is even available worldwide via my server. About my own internet connection.
I had already set up this with myself in 2000, then I had a small pc on the run that had connected via software Raid1 2 hard drives (WD Raptor). About Ngix I had created my own website where I had full access to my data. Thanks DYNDNS.org .

I have a USB stick at the keychain with Ventoy and a small selection of live systems and operating system installers.
In addition, I have a small m.2 NVMe SSD in a USB C case to use as an external SSD. I have them mainly on courses to copy the teaching materials for me.
The rest is on my native NAS.
I store my data for taking on external SSDs. I have my QNAPs at home for backup. I only rarely use USB sticks.
