All machines in the LAN are synchronized daily with a replicator. This includes system partitions and disks, and also mobile devices – it is easier to sync the complete systems instead of selectively selected directory sub-hierarchies.

From the replicator – all files of all systems – backups are created daily. These are diluted over time to keep a manageable number of increments.

In addition, the systems that make sense create hourly (read-only) snapshots of file systems that support efficient snapshots. These are thus protected from data corruption and can be simply reset to a previous version. This also includes the system plate on the systems. This protects against hardware failures, at least in non-RAID systems, but not.

This response option was selected because it is synchronized with the replicator based on file and not on image. In order to protect against synchronizing open or changing files during synchronization, a snapshot is first generated before synchronizing on the devices that support snapshots, which is then synchronized and then removed again.

“A filebackup for my important data is enough for me”? This is not true, because system files are also saved. At first I had “no compassion”, but then I left.

A calming feeling of being able to reset his system in case of the case. A system backup is just as important as security on the Internet..

I don’t care about system files, which can be restored by repair or reinstall .

Work data Images and documents are continuously mirrored to another hard disk when changing. And at weekly intervals an external backup is updated.

Smartphone data will be synchronized with the cloud every morning.

Because I only use Linux, I don’t need a complete system backup.

Since Linux exactly separates the system area from the user area, a backup of /home or even only from /home/

From the system area a backup of /etc is useful. After a new installation you can see what was before, after all you can find many settings in plain text, really as text.

Before I make a complete backup from my system, I change to NixOS, and just save my system content with git.

Linux is set up so quickly, that’s not worth it. 😀

Faulty would not make backup 😀

Hello mchawk777,

I’m sure everything that matters is double. Cloud and twice on different disks.

Replace Windows I did in 15 minutes, that’s okay.

Have a nice day!

Well, then there are updates and >10 programs that should actually bring a 200€ expensive operating system, but not. for example a private-sphere-friendly browser, a usable office suite and more. Windows is “naked” so. 😛

15 minutes I’m looking for the “Please wait a moment” screen 😀

Most of the time, I’ll get it back.

Right, it’s only every ~6 months from experience. Is not so common 😉

Your question, however, only makes sense.

Because when creating backups, not only does the question arise Yes/No, but also the question When and How often.

For me, the system backup applies to the When and How often the following:

  • Based on: Before and/or after major changes to the system (e.g. upgrade).
  • Turnusual: In general “cleaning”, usually at the end of the year.

Jop, usually every two weeks. My files are also synchronized with my HomeServer all the time. This, of course, also has mechanisms to ensure that the data is not lost.

Data backup is mandatory.

What do I want with system/program data? I’d rather save the space. I don’t make backups of data that I can easily retrieve.

I’d just drag all this stuff around unnecessarily.
