Natürlich hat es Sklaverei schon lange gegeben und tauchte in den verschiedensten Ländern und Kulturkreisen auf. Nur hatte sie im Westen, v.a. den USA, vergleichsweise lange Relevanz und es wurde und wird versucht, das damals begangene Unrecht anzuerkennen, soweit möglich wieder gutzumachen und ähnliches in Zukunft zu vermeiden. Andere Länder haben dies weniger getan oder versuchen diesen Aspekt ihrer Geschichte zu verschweigen. Mit dem Zeigefinger auf andere zu zeigen, nur weil diese Ähnliches getan haben, macht die eigenen Aktionen allerdings nicht besser.
