Do male rats need a larger cage?
Hello, I've been looking into the different genders and their advantages and disadvantages. I still have plenty of time, as everything is still being worked out. But I'm not sure which is better, as rats naturally have their own personalities. On the one hand, I'd like an animal that's gluttonous and not too loud. On the other hand, I'd like a female without the large testicles and the marking instinct. I've also noticed that some of them grow almost twice as big. Would I need a larger cage for that?
I've had two of them, always females. I was very happy with them, but they weren't very cuddly and were always climbing. Would the cage need to be set up differently depending on the gender?
I'm a little worried they might get too loud, but so far I've always had good luck with that. But if necessary, I'll just use earplugs; it doesn't bother me. But what were your experiences? And what did you do?
Hello 🙋
Rats are character animals and there are females that are also worn. In general, many rats also like to be stroked. 6 of my 7 rats so far have been cared for and are also asleep on my shoulder/broken/lap
Greater the males themselves become less. They are wider and heavier (to partially double, but completely depends on the body construction of the animal). Nevertheless, the minimum dimensions of 100x50x120 apply to 4 rats.
No, both need a lot of change, want to climb and sleep. As with each cage, a pure climbing/fun floor is recommended.
My rats have been living in my room for almost a year. I sleep 1-1.5 m away from the 24/7 outlet area and it is sometimes very loud, which is why I can't sleep well in part, but after 1 hour in the bed I'm gone and that then for the whole night 🙂

You need a big cage. 2 meters wide, 180 high. 50 deep bigger is always better. The height distance between the floors should be about 50 cm.
And you should hold 4-5 rats. Rats are packs. Means single keeping is malting and also pairing is not ideal. 3 is the absolute minimum. 4 – 5 is better.
As for size. Rat males are not much larger than females. If the testicles bother you, you better take females.
Whether they are to be consumed and trusted depends on the character they have been raised and of course how much time you invest in it.
They're not very loud.
The institution is not gender-dependent. A sleep more than rats. So at 4 rats for example should give 5 sleeping options.
Climbing possibilities.
And regular rat-proof outlet should also be possible. Rats are very curious and sometimes need some change.
