Do I have to inform someone that they will send me the amount of damages for the liability insurance?

I had an argument last week. My "opponent's" glasses fell off, and I accidentally stepped on them. We discussed the matter with a teacher, and I told him I would contact him about liability insurance. I did this that evening, and he said he still needed to find out the price of the glasses.
Now, after a week, I still haven't received an answer from him, hence my question.

I would also like to know if such damage will ever expire and I will no longer have to cover it.

Greetings!

The statute of limitations only takes effect after three years, so your opponent still has time.

No. That's his business alone.
