Do I have to check in with my friends every day?

I usually contact each other daily, and sometimes I wish we could get along well or still be friends without writing to each other every day. I don't always have topics we can write about every day. I ask questions like how the person is, what they're doing… every now and then we send each other pictures. When friends contact me, it's often when they need my help… every now and then they ask what I'm doing, how I'm doing… Is it normal that men text less than women? I find this pressure to text every day annoying. It stresses me out. How about you, and what do you think about the whole thing? I'm also the kind of person who doesn't go out every day; if I do, it's only occasionally to exercise. I do love spending time alone, but not permanently.
