My Discord server is still very small, so it would be useful to know when someone joins or leaves the server. I used a bot for this, but it even showed how long the new user's profile had been there (this annoyed a lot of people). Will I be notified without a bot, or do you know of one that simply greets the user and lets them know when someone leaves?

DIscord has already integrated the function… you can find somewhere in your server’s settings.
Otherwise, each bot has infinitely many ways of setting, since you will certainly be able to redirect the greetings etc. to a public and then other unwanted things into a private channel.
