These are the abbreviations for different types of trains.

RB is the regional railway. Drives regional destinations and stops at all stations.

RE is the Regional Express. If there are also regional destinations, but not at all stations, but only at a somewhat larger one.

IC is the Intercity. Takes off long-distance destinations, so sometimes across Germany and only stops in cities. When the IC goes abroad, it is called EC (Eurocity). The maximum speed is about 200 km/h for both of these trains.

ICE is the Intercity Express. It also drives far-away targets and stops even less than the IC and again drives a bit faster (up to 300 km/h in Germany).

RB = regional railway, stops everywhere

RE = Regional Express, does not hold anywhere, a bit faster

Composite tariff applies in RB and RE.

IC = Intercity, long-distance traffic, stops only in major cities, in the regular food car/bordbistro or minibar service at the place

EC = Eurocity, however, as Intercity cross-border and with Europe-wide uniform criteria.

The abbreviations have already been explained. An important criterion is also the price. In the RB and RE you drive relatively cheaply and the country tickets apply. The IC/EC is more expensive and in the ICE you pay a higher fare.
