Did I mess up the job?

Hi

I applied, received an offer the day before yesterday, and spoke with management on the phone yesterday. The call started off rather awkwardly, as my Bluetooth was still on, and I used it to say "Hello?" for the first few seconds…

Anyway, after that, we talked about the contract until she asked me how much I'd get paid per hour. She followed up with, "I hope that's okay with you," and I responded, apparently feeling a little TOO comfortable, with, "Yeah, I was expecting less," in a joking tone.
She said that I would receive the contract from her by email before I could come and sign it on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, I haven't received a contract yet, and now I'm panicking that I've embarrassed myself too much and they won't give me the job (working student) after all… Do you think I'm exaggerating?

No, you're not. It's perfectly normal to be worried. You haven't received the contract yet because it probably wasn't finished yet. It wasn't until the phone call that it became clear that you'd be starting there. And the contract wasn't drawn up until after the phone call. I'm pretty sure of that. If the HR department had other, more important things to do (it is the end of the month, after all, and salaries are due), then the contract creation might be delayed by a day or two. Be sure to check your spam folder, too. Sometimes things like that end up there by mistake. Good luck!

No, absolutely not. You got the job. People usually don't worry about it with student employees anyway. Do not worry. If you don't get it one day, just ask again politely.

Then get back to us to let us know if you received it.
