Can't move desktop to another SSD? (Config.msi)?
Hi, my problem is the following:
I got a new SSD and wanted to install my programs on it. I wanted to do this by moving the desktop path from my system SSD to the new one. However, when I try to do this, it says that a folder called "config.msi" is blocking it. (See image) I've already tried to solve this problem online and have deleted the hidden files named "config.msi" (or at least all that I could find). Still, nothing works. I've even run an anti-virus program, but it didn't find anything.
If anyone has had a similar problem or knows a solution, I would be really grateful.
Um…
Why does your desktop show on C:/?
This is not normal.
And that’s the problem.
You set the path from “C:/” to “N:/Desktop” and the Explorer tries to differentiate all desktop content. Move everything in “C:/” to “N:/Desktop”? This can only go wrong, you need admin rights and the Explorer will be launched without admin rights. Moreover, it would be a rather stupid idea to actually want it;)
I actually only see the option that you reject when asking if the content is to be postponed. After that, you will manually spare what you want on your desktop.
It could also be that what you have is not the desktop, but only the desktop icon. Because the “right” desktop is not “owners of C:/” but only “owners of desktop”. You can create your own libraries and assign the icon, but they do not appear in the overview you have.
But as I said:
This is definitely not normal.
And if you’re bad, he’s moved system files. So before you do anything, then push back everything he has already moved to “N:/Desktop”.
What you are supposed to do to get rid of this slanted state, you need to know, you know more about how you have achieved it;)
As far as I know, this does not go with “simple” means, but only in the registry, or via external programs. Either way, you hope you have a backup of the registry settings, then you can easily reset them.
Okay, thanks.
I guess I’ll move my files one by one. But I also wanted the new program to be automatically installed on my large SSD. How can I change the instalation path. For example, I tried to download the Adobe programs, but they were pushed to the small SSD without asking. How do I do that best?
Thanks in advance

But if I didn’t do it, choose manually at any installation where it should be written.
You don’t have really relevant differences anyway, at least I don’t know what. You can best drive if you stay with what Windows can do by itself and that would be that you’re wasting the libraries, desktop and co, but letting the programs themselves on C:/.
For many, the games also take most place and on Steam and Co. you can set the folder.
And as I said:
I think you ruined a lot more.
You can move your user folder (usually under C:\Users\Users\Users\) to another folder, but not the C:
Hello,
I’m not a professional. But I think you’re just trying to share Windows. And that’s not possible. Then Windows would have to boot from 2 hard drives, which I’ve never seen before.
In addition, on the desktop are only shortcuts of the actual apps. Means you would just copy a link to the custom app.
You’ll probably have to do the job and move all the apps you want to move individually.
PS doesn’t understand why you want to move the entire desktop

I also, lying on a second SSD, is nothing unusual and is officially supported by Windows.
However, this is probably not the desktop, for me this looks like this folder overview has been manipulated by a program with a bug or manually.
