Deleting Win11 by formatting the SSD?
Hello,
When I reinstall Windows 11 using a Windows 11 boot stick after changing the SSD, the product key is requested first. So far so good. After that, I go into file management, where the new SSD is recognized. I name it NTFS and then it says I should format it. What happens to Windows 11 then? After I format the new SSD, will all the operating system files be deleted? Because that would be crap, then I don't need to format it at all. Please answer! Or do I have to start setting up programs, games, etc. straight away after formatting?
Yeah, that's it.
This is not at all on the new SSD at this point, but is only transferred after the formatting is completed.
Just follow the installation wizard – then these results from itself.
You don't need to format a new SSD for a Windows installation. This makes the installation of itself. The partitioning is also done by the installation. However, you can also perform partitioning manually during installation. For example, if you want to split the SSD into 2 partitions.
You don't need to format them first. But you can partition and format the partition on which no operating system is installed. Then you don't need to do it later on.
The unpartitioned rest is given for installation.
If the naked and unpartitioned SSD is not detected in the installation, you must first specify a path where the installation finds the chipset drivers to the motherboard. They are then loaded (eg from a USB stick) and then Windows can recognize the SSD during installation.
No partitions of an older installation may also be present. So best all, even the 100 MB partitions, delete beforehand. They are rebuilt automatically.
When formatting a hard drive will get all the files lost on it.
