One end of the partial arch fell out – what to do?

Hey people,

Due to a displaced canine, I have a palatal arch and a partial arch attached to it. However, one end of the partial arch (connected to the palatal arch) somehow fell off or out while brushing my teeth.

I'd have to wait at least until Monday to go to the orthodontist (if I'm unlucky, they'll already be on summer vacation)…

If I don't move my mouth much (e.g. buying, drinking, talking) then it's fine, then nothing hurts, but I have to do it, and then the loose end of the partial arch moves 😭 and the other end (attached with chain and glue to the canine tooth, which is still in the gum) then hurts or I'm more afraid that something could happen than pain

I have no idea how to get this partial arch back in (I'm afraid I'll bend something). What should I do now? And what can I do to stop the loose end from moving so much? As I said, I'm scared and in a bit of pain…

I am grateful for any help <3

Hello NixieDiexie,

a picture can help;-)

The partial arch is attached to the corner tooth and the loose end strikes the gum and the cheek?

It’s superb.

You can try to glue the loose end with wax to a tooth. Sugar-free (!) Chewing gum also goes and usually keeps better.

If the partial arch is no longer attached to the Palatineal arch, then he can’t take anything anymore. With normal brackets, you can take off the alastics or if it’s just one or two, pull the bow out. The locks could be opened with a paper clip or a (very) small screwdriver.

Good luck!

Now this thing’s off. Then you could also cut the sheet with a sharp side cutter or cut it out. Not all orthodontics have a great pleasure in such actions.

If you cut too close to a Brachet, then it happens easily that it goes off. And sometimes sharp burrs are created when the side cutter comes out of the hobby area.

Cover the pointed part with a piece of kitchen paper
