Am I allowed to take vacation here, or is there a ban? Partial qualification?
Good evening,
On February 15, I will begin a partial qualification as an IT specialist, funded by the Federal Employment Agency.
This lasts 3 months and on 15.6.25 the second module starts, this one goes until 1.11.25
However, I plan to travel outside of Germany for five weeks during the summer holidays in August (in Bavaria). I've heard that the employment agency might reject this request, as it's always difficult to take a few weeks off in the middle of a continuing education program, as otherwise you'd miss all the course material.
However, from November 1st, I will be unemployed again until the third module, which doesn't begin until February 2026. So, theoretically, I would have about three months to catch up on the missed course material from August 2025 completely on my own at home.
Or at the educational institution if necessary.
Does anyone know what the basis is here and what solutions there are to still travel for 5 weeks in August despite the partial qualification?
From a press release by the Federal Agency for Labour dated 20.06.2022.
So you will have to discuss your holiday request with the specialist responsible for you. It’s not possible, but it’s very unlikely.
Especially since the Office pays for further training. And there you will not have any interest in paying for a training if you do not take part in it for 5 weeks.
In fact, you need to clarify this in advance with the agency for work and support, as here the presence and billing play the main role. In short qualifications no holiday is usually provided, but can be taken into account. 5 weeks at a time, however, blow up the usual frame. The IHK also provides its conditions for the partial qualification.
No, the IHK has nothing to do with partial qualification. Only the educational institution, and most of all it doesn’t matter.
What is the partial qualification for if there is not even a chamber certificate? The educational institution must nevertheless lead to the presence and calculate it. If no holiday is provided for the period of training, this is the stipulation. Experience shows that 1-2 weeks are not a problem if this is simply communicated openly and honestly.
The solution can only consist of communicating your project with your advisor and the carrier.
In SGB II and III there is no holiday but only local abnormality (max. 21 days).
During a qualification, a local absentee does not make sense, it would not do justice to the goal.
Such a measure is not free. This “use” of the employment office should not have been in vain.
By the way, “HolidaysA claim for workers from the Federal Tourism Act.
There are clear rules on holiday and local absenteeism in the case of continuing training or partial qualification supported by the Federal Employment Agency. In general, the following applies:
Basis:
1. Locality requirement: During the participation in a funded measure, you are obliged to be regularly present and to complete the measure properly.
Two. Holidays during the measure: Holiday is in principle only possible if this was agreed and approved with the educational institution and the employment agency. Most of these measures are designed so that they do not provide a regular holiday.
Problem with longer absence:
A longer absence, as planned by you (5 weeks), could be problematic, as this leads to the loss of the taught material and can endanger the success of the measure.
In such cases, the Federal Agency may question the continuation of the funding, which may cause you to cancel the measure or lose the funding.
Possible solutions:
1. Conversation with the educational institution:
Make sure that it is possible to retrieve the substance and whether the carrier agrees with an absence. Sometimes there are flexible regulations or online offers that could facilitate retrieval.
Two. Arrangement with the employment agency:
Request a written permission for the absenteeism. Explain that you are willing to retrieve the missed fabric independently and why the trip is important to you.
Important: You may not travel without permission, as otherwise this is evaluated as a violation of the terms of participation.
3. Move your holiday:
Alternatively, you can try to put the trip into the phase between 1.11.2025 and February 2026, where you are unemployed and have more flexibility.
4. Participation in another module:
In some cases, it is possible to complete the missed module again later. However, this must also be agreed with the educational institution and the agency.
Recommendation:
Speak as early as possible with your competent specialist at the employment agency and with the educational institution. Plan realistically whether and how you could pick up the fabric independently. A longer absence during the measure can be complicated, but in justified cases exceptions are possible.
