Current topics for comment?

Hello, what are some current topics for a practice commentary in 12th grade? It should be political, but not too complex (so nothing about war, for example). We have an assignment the day after tomorrow, and my teacher gave us some tips on what to focus on. He was particularly referring to things or words that we're not supposed to talk about or say these days, or things like gender or more women in leadership positions or something like that. Does anyone have more specific ideas? Especially the socially critical topics and words?
