Cucumber broken?
Cucumber in distress – Hello everyone, the leaves of my cucumber are quite yellow (even more yellow than in the photo) and have yellowish-brown edges. Could someone tell me what this is and what I can do? (Watered every two days, sunny spot, clay soil, fertilized with nettle manure a week and a half ago)
Thanks for your help 🙂
The cause is fertilizer deficiency:
Cucumbers are true fress bags. There is probably no plant that is as hungry as pumpkin, cucumber and relatives. The brown edges of the leaf Potassium deficiency. Use best a full value fertilizer NPK fertilizer.
You should also: PH analysis to make the earth. I guess you have a too acid soil.
In trade there are petentkali that I like to use with my cucumbers but better would have a full-fledged soil analysis before fertilizing individual nutrients. That’s something for professionals.
Usually helps simple fertilization with Full value fertilizers. (Finally cheaper)
Normal compost fertilization is no longer enough here. Compost takes too long until the nutrients are available. I would therefore Art fertilizer with quick effect, possibly also Liquid fertilizer.
Pouring every 2 days is rather little in summer. Of course, it also depends on how water-containing the earth is. On very hot days it is possible to pour 2 times a day.
I’ve fertilized with Brennesseljauche a week and a half ago, but that doesn’t seem enough when I read what you write..
I’m afraid I’m giving too much water. so far usually so that the flat casting ring around is full. Maybe I should lure the earth around, she’s sometimes banging hard so that the water can penetrate better? But actually it sucks a few minutes.
Importantly remove all lower leaves. No sheet shall touch the ground.
Gurkengärtner even remove up to 2 m. height of the leaves, their tombs are also 6 m. high;) Especially clay soil remains moist for a long time and when the leaves come into contact with the soil, fungal diseases spread out.
The floor is too hard, that doesn’t like the cucumbers so much, but basically, loam floor is a very good floor. But he should be loosened.
If you have compost, then throw a bucket to each plant with a KINDER hand horn chips (nitrogen fertilizer) to the full value fertilizer as described above.
For next year, you should mix the soil with another substrate to loosen it more.
Small update: the cucumber is fine again, it has nice green leaves again! Thank you!
Thank you for feedback
… thanks for the great tips!
Either you pour too much or you forget about the fertilizer.
Thank you for your hint. I’m really totally insecure with casting (garden starter) but the floor (loam floor) doesn’t look wet around it.. and I fertilized with nettle jack a week and a half ago..irriting everything..
Small update: the cucumber is fine again, after a small fertilization it has nicely full of green leaves again! Thank you!
Great, then let her taste you.
Because you only water every 2 days, I say it will be a nutrient deficiency.
Thank you for your hint. I’m really totally insecure with casting (garden starter) but the floor (loam floor) doesn’t look wet around it.. And I fertilized with nettle cake a week and a half ago. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Zucchini also looks yellow.
Small update: the cucumber is fine again, after a new small fertilization it has beautifully full of green leaves again! Thank you!
