Crab disintegrating because of snails?
Hi everyone, my snails need lime to regenerate their shells, etc., but I don't have any access to lime at the moment, so I have an empty crab "skeleton," or rather, the shell, since it's made of lime. Now it's completely disintegrated. Could this have been the snails?
So, I hope you rinsed this very well, because salt is not optimal.
Of course skeletons decompose, and snails, as detrivores and calcium lovers, will accelerate this process.
Better yet, use eggshells, cuttlebones, or limestone. You're sure to find other snail shells outside.
I found this crab shell in a lake, not the ocean, but yes, I washed it out. There's also a large snail shell inside, and they've already laid eggs in it.
Sounds good. Garden lime would also be an easy option. You can find it at a garden store.
