CPU tray vs. boxed?

Hello, I have a question. Are tray or boxed CPUs more worthwhile? Tray CPUs come without packaging and a warranty. But they are usually cheaper than the boxed versions, for example the Ryzen 5 5600, where the tray version is a good €20 cheaper than the boxed version. But I've also often heard that you shouldn't buy tray CPUs because you don't know what you're getting. But still, so many people recommend the Ryzen 5 7500F, which is only available as a tray version. So I'm wondering if the manufacturer's warranty justifies the extra cost for the boxed CPUs? What do you think?

Tray CPUs come without packaging and warranty.

The dealer must give you 2 years of warranty, so a lack of warranty would not have a disadvantage for you.

But are usually cheaper than the Boxed variants

This isn’t even so often the case…

Often, tray CPUs are also just a little more expensive.

for example Ryzen 5 5600 there the Tray variant is well 20€ cheaper than the Boxed variant.

For 20€ savings, you will definitely get a better CPU cooler than the included Wraith Stealth. This is worth the CPU tray aug anyway.

But I’ve heard more often that you don’t want to buy Tray CPUs because you don’t know what to get.

Who’s telling a bullshit? As long as you don’t order your CPU at Wish, Temu or Amazon Marketplace dealers, you just get a blister with the ordered CPU. Tray CPUs haven the same quality scatter as boxed CPUs.

CPU trays are actually aimed at large customers such as e.g. system integrators that many processors need but do not need the entire garbage around it.

At Tray there is no CPU cooler, with Boxed there is a (usually simple / cost-effective) CPU cooler.

Boxed CPUs have manufacturer warranty, in addition to the statutory warranty that the dealer has to take over. Tray CPUs have no manufacturer warranty, so only the legal warranty by the dealer.

Tray then makes sense if you want to get your own cooler anyway or, for example, water cooling.

Hello

Processors are sold as BOX, WOF or TRAY goods. The following is behind it:

  • BOX – CPU is sold with cooler “in the Box”, with manufacturer warranty and two years legal warranty by the seller
  • WOF – (WithOut Fto) CPU is sold without cooler, with manufacturer warranty and two years of legal warranty by the seller
  • TRAY – (pallets or carrier goods) CPU is sold without cooler, with two years of legal warranty by the seller, but without manufacturer warranty
