Covering a mare as a “horse beginner”?
Hello everyone,
My girlfriend currently owns a mare, which she now wants to have covered. She's had horses for several years and is very knowledgeable about keeping and riding horses. Now she wants to have the mare covered (or rather, she's still considering it). However, she doesn't come from a horse-riding family and isn't really sure what to consider… or rather, where to even begin planning, what prerequisites should be in place, etc. She doesn't have any friends who are knowledgeable about the topic either.
Can someone here provide me with information so I can help her?
Best regards
For the first time, the mare must be fit for breeding. For this purpose, let TA clarify the clinical side and then read the breeding program and the conditions for a breeding book entry to the competent breeding association.
If this is done, you can go to the search for suitable hengs or let yourself – if you lack the experience – be advised by the breeding association.
The mare is then covered on the deck station – they usually take care of everything so that in principle you only have to “delive” it.
Between day 14 and 16 after covering, you can then carry out the first trance examination. Once the mare has taken up follows a further examination after day 30, otherwise the whole procedere starts again from the front 😉
At the latest, it’s time to look for a suitable stable to choose and spend the months on foot. Not every pension can and wants to manage this. If the foal in the world is still in your responsibility to ensure that the foal gets papers and a passport. Help is also given here by the breeding association or the FN.
After decommissioning, of course, it depends on whether you want to keep the foal or sell it. If you keep the journey going towards the breeding ground.
Ask the Landesverband what criteria your mare must meet. Now you won’t cover, but next spring. Until then you can also get information from the association or breeders from the area. Whether it makes sense to cover or how you want to hold this mare. A second foal would be good. Also gives farms where everything is raided, from pregnancy to birth to decommissioning
You can also learn breeding theory. There are courses and seminars on site and online. I would not be able to train as far as possible if I were interested.

it begins by giving its stubborn in a group of confessions and by raising the foal among other foals.
In addition, no more stubborn people are cultivated today, which is not at least registered in the main master files.
riding/horse holding and breeding are two completely different things.
the stub requires a certificate of compliance. In addition, one should take the fear that the association proposes if one does not know of pedigrees.
but yes – it is also less complicated. you can also simply fries on your own haflingerstute and then, in the result of this increase, has one of those poor creatures, of which there are already too many at the market and where unfortunately no one has the mumm to lead them to secondary use, which would be best for them. in the case of doubt, this means 25 or more years of avoidable animal suffering and, unfortunately, is not punished even though it should.
