Coronation: Does anyone else find it strange that the Speaker of the House of Commons is attending the ceremony?

Okay, Sunak said a few words, but it's a different story when you hand the king a sword (or whatever). Now she's still standing there holding the sword in front of her with both hands. Here's a wild thought: what if the state stayed out of it altogether?? That would be a start!

How would it be if the state kept out??

Charles belongs to the state… The oath, which he lays down, is so prescribed by law.

In addition, he has the last word in bills, because only if King Charles agrees to it, the law can enter into force. He could also refuse his consent to the law and then the law would not enter into force. This is very rare, but lastly Queen Anne refused her consent to a law in 1708.

The king is also the confidant of the prime minister. Queen Elizabeth held weekly meetings. This is what King Charles wants to do, because the king is impartial and therefore the prime ministers can talk about their plans & concerns, but also ask for advice.
