Connect NAS via switch that is not connected to the Internet?

Hello

I bought a Synology server and would like to connect it via a switch. However, my laptop only allows a connection via Ethernet cable if the switch is connected to the internet. As soon as I disconnect the switch from the internet, the laptop displays "No connection" (the laptop and NAS are connected to the switch).

Many thanks in advance

Must enter the IP of your NAS into the address line of your browser

And a switch works on Layer 2, which does not issue addresses, but only forwards packages

You need a layer 3 switch, or A router to be able to assign an IP address via DHCP so you can also access the NAS. The router does not have to go to the Internet to make a connection work. If you don’t open the ports of your router, it’s not a problem, so just take your normal router. Otherwise, NAS is also a little unnecessary

So in short: Your NAS needs an IP address and must be in the same subnet as your laptop. I don’t know

This is also ok, with no connection he probably does not mean any internet connection (android at least so). Local addresses will still go. What will not go is find.synology.com use, you need the direct ip
