Cite sources?
Hello, I have to write a term paper for university and have a question about literature.
The primary source should always be cited whenever possible. I've already found several sources that are relevant to me. However, when I find a good sentence, I see that the author has also cited it. When I then go to the references for the "linked" author, I see that they also cite virtually the same sentence. How do I proceed without citing the secondary source? I can't really go through 20 sources, can I? Especially since they're always further back in time and therefore rather useless.
Thanks in advance for your help!
If the author quotes someone differently in a text, you will proceed as follows:
Author Primary Source, 2024, cited by Author Secondary Source, 2025.
In the literature directory, you only give the secondary source. However, secondary sources should be avoided if possible.
Thank you.
That's my problem. Secondary sources should only be quoted if there is no access to the primary source… but unfortunately I do not know what is the primary source.
The author or text that made a statement first.
However, so that this is not “quoted according to, quoted according to,” it is enough to quote from your primary source and to point out that the author has it from another source.
Thank you.
