Write and cash checks yourself in Germany?
I have a bank account in another EU country. This bank still issues checkbooks, or whatever they're called in German: checkbooks.
For example, can I write a check for another person in Germany and give it to that person so that they can cash the check?
For example, I write a check for €50 for a friend. I then give the check to my friend, and he takes it to his bank and has the money either directly deposited into his account or in cash. His bank then withdraws the money from my account. That's how it works. I've done this several times in the US.
Checks issued by the bank can definitely be cashed in Germany. But what about handwritten checks? The ones I fill out myself with a pen? Can I cash them here in Germany, too, or can I do it in the country where I have my account?
Cash payouts of a check are only possible with the related bank. Otherwise, and to do so even foreign cheques, you can only credit the balance in the account. In the case of foreign cases, payment is possible only after cash has been received.
To stay with your example. You write a foreign queue (EUR 50) from your friend. Your friend submits this cheque to his bank for credit to his account. If your friend has EUR 50 already on his toy, he can take it off and give it to you. If he has no EUR 50 on the Kto, he must wait until the money has been received effectively.
“Have done this more often in the USA.” It’s so easy. If I take a cheque and pay the money immediately from my existing credit to the checker, I’m the loser when the cheque bursts.
A manager’s cheque (bank check) must also be credited to the account, but it is possible to use the money immediately because the issuing bank has already charged the account of the cheque’s bank. Hey, this check is already paid.
Why easy if it’s all about? Use your KK and get cash from the ATM.
I never imagined that. I wanted to pay someone money by check.
The thing is that the money is not debited when the check is redeemed. Of course, the account is not covered and it does not work. It shouldn’t happen.
The question is only whether self-written checks are accepted in Germany. I’ve redeemed a check from the USA in Germany. But he was right off the bank. So money is already confirmed or paid. It’s easier, of course. Only at the self-written checks this looks different.
Checks issued themselves are credited to the account after receipt of money. No problem. You might have had a manger’s check.
