Cat calmer after being allowed into the bedroom?
Hello!
We adopted two cats from an animal shelter. It was clear from the start that they weren't allowed in the bedroom. However, one of the cats spends half the night scratching at the door, completely destroying the silicone and wooden door. We've tried ignoring it and everything else. So I gave in and opened the door, allowing the cats into the bedroom.
Since they've been allowed in, one of the cats (the one who always scratched so much) has been lying on the bed all day, doesn't want to play anymore, and doesn't run to the food as quickly when it's mealtime. She's just behaving differently. I'd be interested to know if it could stay this way, or if she's just behaving this way because it's new. She didn't let us pet her as often before, and only came when she wanted to. That's changed now, too, and she seems to need more cuddles.
I'm really curious to see how and if her behavior changes. Do you have any experience with this?
The bedroom belongs to the apartment, and the apartment is the precinct of the cat, you just kept her a part of her precinct and now she will be afraid that when she leaves the room you refuse to enter again.
but that’s just my opinion
Well, what just means to keep away, other cat owners seem to make it impossible for the cats to enter a room… She comes to the living room sometimes when we’re here.
I can imagine that this will be back…if not I would possibly. Go to TA…. It seems to me that it is more satisfied, but it does not know. Doesn’t know why she’s just lying there… At night she is also there and jumps to bed occasionally, but sleeps less (both cats are night-active)
Especially because the cat in the first night for the first time has tasted really loud (which makes it almost never) in the first two nights she has corded every time… Then again less…
What is the reason why the cats can’t go to the bedroom?
Ahhh this is interesting, I have also asked myself in general 😀 thanks for your answers 🙂
To answer your input question: For three years, I have been observing constant behavioral changes on my two cats. They’re never the same for a long time.
Yes, we had closed them during the day for a few hours, that was also no problem, but I don’t know how it would be to close them permanently during the day, as we both work and the cat seems to be lying on the bed during the day (have a camera in the living room since we wanted to know who to scratch the wallpapers, which by the way, are more likely to be caused by playing or zoomies)
Are you leaving the bedroom door permanently open?
The cats have several scratching trees, scratching mats, scratching board, toys, a net on the balcony we also have. They have the whole apartment available including balcony and I also know the cats don’t like closed doors… Well, now it’s not different & I’m curious how it will go on
Cats do not understand why the resource (lovers)people disappear behind a door. This is the same as a contact termination.
Generally, cats do not like closed doors.
In addition, there are also cats that scratch the wallpaper in particular at certain places in the apartment. Scratch boards are available at these places on the wall. Because scratching means marking, stretching and stress reduction. A closed door is stress for one or other cat.
I am not a friend of this cats to regulate in their so being in housing, because they are cats. 😉
I am also in favour of being taken back as a human being and, in the beginning, watching the cats exactly for weeks and months and providing them with many scratches and climbing opportunities, as well as a connected balcony, which is freely usable in summer 24/7.
Making cats suitable for the apartment does not succeed without complications and any binding termination.
Cats with positive reinforcement and lots of fun for them and the human roommates, to conditioning creates deep bond and all those involved get what they need.
Well, we had decided from the very beginning, for example because of the cat hair, they scratched the wallpapers in the whole apartment…They are also night-active and I now need my sleep but that would be robbed with almost every night and that’s why I gave up because I didn’t get any sleep…the door frame has to be changed too, but that’s how it is:D
Ai Wai Wai once said that cats can open doors but cannot close. Doors can only close people.
Do you know anything about the prehistory of cats? A lot is explained when one knows what attitude the cats come from, how long they were with the mother, etc.
Puh difficult.us was just told that they were taken up relatively early in animal welfare… so with a few months. Hidden 08/22 we then brought them to us exactly one year later. Both are still a little scary, the one can be stroked without the end and the other that has scratched so on the door actually rather less… But she was a little more “active” just as I said at the moment she’s just in bed and I don’t know if she’s lying…
She’s attentive? Or does she seem apathetic to lying?
Has the appetite changed drastically? Does she eat much less?
I’d go to the vet for caution. But I think the cat feels very born in bed. There are crucial weeks with mother and siblings.
Both cats are siblings, but we said I don’t know when the two were separated from the mother…
We were with the vet last week (before we decided to leave the door) and it was all right.
She’s noticeable, yes. She’s eating too, only she’s not running like wild when the machine is spending the food. Only play she does not do so much at the moment
I’ve listed a few things you can do last night if you don’t want to have the cats in the bedroom that could help the questioner – maybe you can take some of them?
Cat terrorizes early in the morning? (Catching behaviour, British short hair) – good question
I would interpret the behavioral changes of your mice so that your bed smells very much after you and the mice feels the smell as safe. Maybe your bed is also very comfortable for them. I don’t think that’s what I can really say, but it’s very likely that your mie will continue to look for your closeness and be guided by you. And where it smells most like you, it feels most comfortable now. So you probably won your heart for you 🥰
But you can’t say much about it without knowing what age it is here and how long they are with you or what experiences they have done so far.
Sudden behavioral changes and the relationships in which they arise should always be recorded chronologically in the event that health complaints occur, but if the cats are only recently with you, the behavior would not necessarily make me stubborn. They must first live and build a relationship with you.
When was the last time the two were examined by the veterinarian? It should be easy to understand when the two come from animal welfare. Be sure to pay more attention to signs of stress, indigestion and denial of food/drinking and if you notice anything about it, in any case the veterinarian 🙂
