Car not getting warm enough?

Hello, my Audi A4 B8 doesn't warm up properly. As soon as I drive about 10 km, it reaches 87 degrees according to the car display, but as soon as I turn on the heater, it unfortunately drops back down to 75. The same thing happens when I drive downhill or in town. Today, we read the error log with VCDS, and no related errors were detected by the car. What could be causing this?

Probably the thermostat is defective on your car, which means it no longer closes properly.

Then the cooling water goes into the “great cooling circuit”, is cooled there, and its heating power drops as a result.

If you change the thermostat and you want to drive your car for a longer time, you should not only have the thermostat replaced, but also the cooling liquid on occasion.

The cooling liquid consists of water and a anti-freeze agent, with the anti-freeze also being a protection against corrosion – by the way, the reason why in the frost-free seasons it is not easy to drive with clear water…

Cooling liquid must also be changed regularly, such as brake fluid and engine oil, because the anti-corrosion additives degrade over time.

Thermostat clamps and remains open. Must be exchanged.
The thermostat regulates the small and large cooling circuit. The large cycle runs over the water cooler. In winter, when it’s cold and you additionally drive your heater, the cooler will not be required when driving normally. If the thermostat does not close properly, the hot water still flows into the cooler and the heat goes to flow. Uphill the engine is loaded and additionally generates heat, the temperature rises. And then you have exactly the described effect. The component works purely mechanically, an error is not stored in the memory.

Thermostat, I already had. You’ll need to change it.
