I don’t know the special model, but with many printers this is so. At Canon printers, there were models where the color tanks had a small window through which the printer recognized whether there was still color in the tank. It can be glued or painted black then it also goes with empty tank. It’s got to be on the Internet.

If the color cartridge is all, can you not press black anymore?

That’s correct.

In the past, you could still print with black cartridge when the color tanks were empty or only one of them.

Today the more modern printers have installed a function that then prevents exactly that and you are forced to buy paint so that you can print far. The manufacturers of printers try to achieve more sales when buying cartridges. Many buy refill or reprocessed cartridges. Usually cheaper ink is used there to increase sales, very to the suffering of the print head.

I’ve been using a Black/White laser printer from Brother for years. It is not only cheaper for consumption (€20 for 6-10,000 pages pressure) but also easier to handle. Sometimes it is also networkable, which then saves me the annoying USB cable that leads to the PC as I can print through my home network. The printer is now over 15 years old. Once changed the drum kit and several times changed the toner. Where the costs for printing are still more favourable than with a colour picker.

Nowadays, you hardly need any colourful print. If you can go to the drugstore Rossmann or DM have printing stations where you can print with color, which is cheaper. Or you are looking for Copy Stations where you can also print for small money. Most of what we print today are often texts or instructions/information etc. These can be printed in pure black problemless.

Anyone who wants to print colourful brochures or postcards etc. It is much better off with a copy shop than if it makes it too good. The latter would be simple in production to expensive.
