Can you restrict a motorcycle for A2 with a DZB?
Hello community, I've been looking into throttle restrictions for the A2 driver's license and was wondering if the bike can also be throttled via a rev limiter. With a throttle limiter, the throttle is active even at low revs. I'd be very happy to receive an answer. Regards, Tobi
Only the power is throttled, not the speed, which can be fatal if you accelerate too hard and the engine then stops working.
And only for Euro 4 bikes is there something like this, for all others there are mechanical throttles via stops, intake manifolds, covers in the manifold, etc.

Electronic throttles – MCR
NEW DEVELOPMENT 2016 – Power reduction for “Euro 4” vehicles
alpha Technik has developed a completely new product for you and your customers that fully complies with the latest requirements for vehicles marketed under the EU Homologation Framework Directive 168/2013. An easy way to identify these vehicles (also known as "Euro 4" vehicles) is the description in the middle section of the approval number e13* 168/2013 *00003* on the type plate, shown here, for example, for the Yamaha XSR700.
According to this Europe-wide directive for the new homologation of two-wheelers, mechanical power changes to 35 kW are excluded.
alpha Technik has launched an electronic throttle for this purpose:
MCR ( Micro Controlled Restriction )
The MCR receives the signal from the throttle and processes it so that the bike delivers a maximum of 35 kW of power in all riding conditions.
There is a special feature for the driver:
While the travel of the throttle grip was very limited with the mechanical throttling systems known up to now, with the alpha Technik MCR power change to 35 kW the travel of the throttle grip will remain unchanged, the full angle of rotation will be retained and there will be no limits to driving pleasure.
Errr… Exactly the other way around. 😀
If it is ONLY throttled via the throttle cable -> speed is limited, not the intake tract.
But you still can't go full throttle, right? Sorry if I misunderstood it. Do you know if an electronic DZB is legal? Thanks for the answer.
Of course, you can't go full throttle—that's exactly what the throttle blocker does. That's exactly the problem with the throttled 600 and 1000 cc super sports bikes: Before you get any decent torque, it's already over because you can't even get into the rev range.
Hello Tobi,
What is theoretically or perhaps practically possible does not matter.
For each motorcycle, you must use a tested and approved throttle kit, which must then be installed and, above all, registered by an expert.
If you throttle yourself in any way, it won't be registered, and the throttle is useless. Legally speaking, it's like not throttling!
Especially with the throttle kits of motorcycle manufacturers, one can assume that they already throttle in a way that makes technical sense.
Therefore, choosing a motorcycle based solely on the type of throttle that meets your own requirements makes little to no sense.
Buy a motorcycle that you like and that meets your expectations, along with the appropriate throttle kit – or buy a motorcycle that is already throttled – and you're done!
Another small note: If you have not yet obtained the A2 or obtained it after December 27, 2016, you are only allowed to ride motorcycles restricted to 35 kW / 48 hp, whose original power does not exceed 70 kW / 96 hp.
best regards
Michael
