Can you purchase car insurance while still having a driver's license?
I have had a Russian driving license since 2005.
It has to be re-registered. I'm not allowed to drive it in Germany. I'm allowed to drive it in other EU countries.
My wife only got her Georgian driver's license this year and recently came to Germany. She's been allowed to drive with it for six months.
We bought a car yesterday.
The insurance in your name costs 1400 euros per year
Can I insure the car with my driving license and simply list my wife as a passenger, or even buy insurance where every driver is insured?
Of course, I won't drive until I have my German driving license.
You don't need a driver's license to insure a car.
Only the actual driver needs a driver's license. The reason is simple: in principle, someone without a driver's license can buy, register, and insure a car. They can then still let other people with a license drive them around in the car…
But how is the rate calculated?
In case of doubt, the maximum rate applies.
Sura. But you certainly won't have any qualifying claim-free years.
To take out motor vehicle liability insurance, you do NOT need to have a driver's license.
