Can you force a certain (low) quality when streaming?

Hello everyone,

I'm interested in whether it's possible to force a low quality when streaming. When I watch a live stream on my smartphone in Firefox (e.g., ZDF), I don't want to use up my data allowance in such a short time. The live stream automatically uses the highest quality, but 480p would be sufficient for me. 🙂

Regarding ZDF: In the settings (degree wheel), you can specify the preferred video quality (very high, medium, low) and thus determine the maximum data consumption (19, 11 or 6 MB / min).

For other players, this is similarly adjustable.

Right. When playing articles from the media library, it is not the case in the live stream. That’s stupid. The stream can be played via a third-party player such as VLC or so and can be limited in the data volume. That would be worth a try.

I found the following on the ARD pages. Don’t help. I’ll ask why you can’t choose the level of quality on the live stream.

Can you change the quality of the stream?

The stream is played in different quality levels that automatically change depending on the actual connection speed. The largest total bit rate is 2692 kbit/s. There is often no optimal quality via a mobile connection (the lowest quality level is an audio file without a picture at 64 kbit/s). Wi-Fi is recommended.
