Can you afford your own apartment during FWD?
Hello everyone.
I will soon begin my voluntary military service.
My problem is that my parents don't support my upcoming activity. Even worse, when the topic comes up, they only discuss it with me, and it always ends in an argument. My mother believes I should have continued school and gotten a regular job or studied, because I dropped out after 12th grade and am therefore only getting the academic part of my vocational baccalaureate. My plan is to obtain my vocational baccalaureate through the FWD (12 months of practical service) and thus keep the option open for university studies. The FWD will also give me insight into whether a further career or a career in the federal government is worthwhile, although I want to do an apprenticeship as a foundation afterward.
It's driving me crazy, and I don't want to imagine us arguing on my weekends after I'm off work. That's why I'm considering moving into my own apartment.
I am aware that this would be an additional burden and that certain advantages I have at home through my parents would disappear and I would have to pay for them myself.
The current FWD salary, starting at €1,500, would probably not be enough to cover all of my costs, which is why I would like to ask you for advice and information on whether there is any financial support available from the federal government or other agencies.
Thank you in advance.
Schmunzel – sometimes for information, as an apprentice living outside the parental home, you (if there is a cash benefit) would be entitled to a fee of EUR 930 to the parents according to the table in Düsseldorf, including the statutory child benefit. Of course, your income would be charged up to a free amount of 90 euros.

As part of a study (with full entitlement to training) max. 855 euros and would have the right to forward the statutory child allowance.
Regarding your idea of 1500 euros at the Volunteer Service (Bufdi), I must disappoint you ….

The Federal Voluntary Service is a voluntary service. Volunteers get a pocket money from max 604 € monthly (as of May 2024). The specific pocket money is agreed with the respective place of use.
As far as you fight 1500 euros for voluntary military service, you would certainly be relatively “bonfortionös” economically.
no there is no – you should follow your parents.
Thank you for your answer. I don’t know if the information changes what your answer is, but I’m already full-year. I do not do a federal volunteer service, but a voluntary military service with the Bundeswehr. That’s a big difference. And in fact, it is stipulated in the Sold Act that as a FWDler (where I must correct myself with the exact Sold) you get the 1600-2200€ net, depending on the degree of service.
