Can I still drive a nearly 30-year-old 4-stroke engine to its limit?
Hi, I have a question about my 30 year old Yamaha engine (Fk250).
Since it's a bit older, I don't know if I can still rev it to the limiter. Max RPM is 10,500, but I've never driven it above 8,500. With proper maintenance (always plenty of oil), can I drive it normally without worrying about piston seizure?

The Japanese have always finished making high-speed engines stable and durable.
My Honda CB125 is 40 years old. The small 2-cylinder four-stroke engine had the maximum power of 17 hp at 12000/min. The maximum torque was 11000 rpm. Not much goes down to 8000 rpm. After so many years, the valve springs have dropped a bit, so that it had a starting point of 9000/min.
After replacing the valve springs, it now turns loosely to 11000/min. The 12,000/min are no longer accessible.
This engine screams for speeds and you don't get to use them. When he's warm, I'll turn the old-timer out. Unbelievable how much fun this little racer still does today.

As with people, a limit is different. Gentle would be good for longer durability.
