Can I refill engine oil from a different brand?
My car is currently leaking a little oil. I already know the cause, and I've scheduled an appointment at the garage, but that wasn't for another three weeks. Now I'm a little worried that it won't last that long. I only know that the garage last used 5W-30 oil. Can I then simply fill it with any 5W-30 oil that's compatible with my car according to the online oil finder?
Of course you can, especially if you just want to fill it up a bit.
In principle, all oils of a certain viscosity class can be mixed with each other, and if the supplier says the specification matches your vehicle, all the better.
Yes, you can, as long as the manufacturer's specifications match the oil, it doesn't matter whether it says Shell, Aral, LiquiMoly or even Audi, VW or whatever.
Please note, however, that you should only top up to 1 liter of oil before having an oil change done and have a specialist workshop check why your vehicle is losing oil before more serious damage occurs.
You can do this without hesitation. If you only need to top up a small amount (about half a liter) and the entire oil needs to be changed in three weeks anyway, you can use any oil, such as a 10W-40 or a 15W-40. These oils are all intermixable. Nothing will happen.
Yes, you can. The name on the bottle is irrelevant. Only the viscosity matters. Normally, you should also pay attention to the manufacturer's approval, but in this case, I consider it unnecessary.
You can, no problem
You can. The manufacturer doesn't matter.
