Can I get my money back myself via PayPal?

I booked a flight. Today I received an email saying the booking couldn't be confirmed and that they would refund me via my original payment method.

Can't I just request a refund myself? Shouldn't that work through PayPal?

Of course it works, you can return the PayPal direct debit.

But then you owe PayPal , and they will get the money back from you through their debt collection service KSP .

And believe me, you don't really want that…😉

And now seriously:

You can't "request a refund" from PayPal at all, even though this myth is often spread by ignorant people:

You can only pay for goods and services via PayPal Open a buyer protection case within 180 days and report an item that has not been received or that differs from the description:

Click: PayPal – Open a Buyer Protection Case

PayPal alone decides, no one else.

And no, it's not the same thing.

You should open a buyer protection case for that. PayPal alone decides whether you will repay the amount paid. What is the reason?

You can't claim a payment "simply yourself". You can report a non-received item at Paypal, then determine Paypal and eventually there is money back.
